Sushi Land, also known as Marinepolis, first opened its doors in Okayama, Japan in April, 1976. By using only top ingredients, freshest fish, the family's secret rice recipe, friendly service, and amazing prices, Sushi Land expanded rapidly on Japan's west coast. In 1991, Nobu Yamanoi, the nephew of Sushi Land's president, decided to bring his family's idea to Beaverton, Oregon and be the first "kaiten," or conveyor belt, sushi restaurant in the Pacific Northwest. By continuing to use the family's secret rice recipe, special soy sauce, fresh ingredients, and friendly atmosphere, Nobu's decision to bring Sushi Land to America was a success.
